Although San Antonio’s stray statistics have drastically improved in recent years, local laws continue to make overpopulation, abandonment, and animal abuse a common occurrence. Golden Horn’s K9 rescue is a devoted organization that is proud to open its doors to every dog, when we have space, no matter their history. Distemper, broken legs, heartworm, severe burns, broken pelvis, broken jaws, broken backs, autoimmune disease, amputations, these are just some of the situations that have come our way.
As an official 501(c)(3) non-profit and volunteer-run organization, we rely heavily on generous donors to continue our important work. Because we do primarily street rescue, the dogs in our care are almost always neglected, suffering from abuse, and in dire need of medical attention. 100% of your cash donations go directly towards urgent medical care and their daily needs, including:
Animal Vetting
Each dog rescued receives a full evaluation, consisting of:
- Testing and treatment for heartworm, if needed
- Spaying or neutering
- 4DX (worm testing) and treatment, if needed
- Necessary vaccinations, including rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella and Influenza
- Testing and treatment for other wounds and injuries (such as broken bones or bullet or BB gun wounds)
Transportation
Currently, our transport fees are out-of-pocket. Your donation can help fund a pupper’s trip to a better life in Canada, Denver or Michigan!
Boarding
Unfortunately, Golden Horn’s K9 rescue has limited on-site capacity (i.e. Kaz’s house!) Your cash donations are used towards boarding puppers in local facilities, until it is safe for them to travel. Did you know that prior to a dog being transported out of state, they must get a health certificate from a vet?
Daily Needs
Funds are used for basic daily needs, including food, medical expenses, puppy pads, chew toys, leashes, collars, you get the idea, our needs are never ending!

We accept physical donations such as:
- Dog toys
- Dog food and treats (bully sticks or similar are ideal)
- Leashes and collars
- Blankets
- Old Towels
- Puppy pads
- Large Totes to store all of the above
Volunteer Hours
We are always looking for individuals to volunteer their time. Currently, we are looking for help with local transports to vets and boarding, bathing, yard cleanup, and individuals who can provide playtime for our active dogs. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering!
